As a multiple prizewinner at international competitions, he won the 55th International Singing Competition Anton Dvorak, Johannes Brahms (Austria), Ada Sari (Poland), Josef Sinmandy (Hungary), Imrich Godin (Slovakia), UPMCF (France), JEJ Reszkow (Poland). ) and Chamber Opera Schloss Rheinsberg in Germany.
He has appeared at the Frankfurt Opera, the Bayreuth Festival (Haus Wahnfried), the Tyrolean Festival, the Opéra-Théâtre de Metz Métropole, the Nationaltheater Weimar, the Grande theater Lodz and the Nationaltheater Szeged. His extensive concert engagements have taken Hongyu Chen to several European countries as well as to Asia and led to collaborations with renowned orchestras such as the German State Philharmonic Rhineland-Palatinate, the Brandenburg State Orchestra, the Prague Philharmonic, the Orchester National de Lorraine and conductors such as Christian Thielemann, Helmut Rilling, Gustav Kuhn, and Gyüdi Sandor.
Since 2018 he has been a junior professor at the Inner Mongolia Art University in China and at Szeged University in Hungary, as well as a visiting professor for master classes in China and Europe.
